Reentry > San Francisco Re-entry Council

The San Francisco Reentry Council is a public/private partnership created by the District Attorney to reduce crime. The Council implements new ways to hold offenders accountable and reduce recidivism among individuals who have recently been released from jail, prison or a juvenile facility.  The Council brings together leaders from law enforcement and government, business, labor, education, health services, and the faith community. These leaders are working together to create, model reentry strategies throughout San Francisco.

Purpose:

The members of the Council coordinate and marshal their resources to create reentry strategies focused on the following core elements:

  • Accountability:  Offenders must be held accountable, both for their offense and for their conduct while participating in reentry programs.  We must also hold our systems and our community providers accountable for real results.
  • Opportunity:  The Council uses its collective resources to provide former offenders with concrete opportunities for employment, education, health care, and housing.
  • Family & Community:  The Council also focuses on engaging ex-offenders with their children, families and communities.

Co-Chairs:

District Attorney Kamala Harris, Sheriff Mike Hennessey, Communities of Opportunity Director Dwayne Jones, Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, Goodwill CEO Deborah Alvarez-Rodriguez, Juvenile Probation Chief Bill Siffermann
