SAN FRANCISCO, CA – District Attorney Kamala D. Harris announced today the jury conviction of Terry Childs, age 45, on one felony count of denying or disrupting computer services to an authorized user in violation of Penal Code section 502(c)(5).
The jury also found true the allegation for taking property causing losses in excess of $200,000 pursuant to Penal Code section 12022.6(a)(2).
The guilty verdict was handed down after a 5-month long trial before the Honorable Teri L. Jackson in Department 29 of San Francisco Superior Court. The defendant remains in custody on a no-bail status as a result of the verdict. His next scheduled court appearance will be on June 14, 2010 in Department 29 for sentencing.
The defendant, a network administrator of the City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Technology (DT), was convicted of denying or disrupting computer services to an authorized user on the City and County of San Francisco’s FiberWAN network system.
“Conrad Del Rosario is to be commended for his perseverance and professionalism in the prosecution of this complicated case,” said San Francisco District Attorney Kamala D. Harris. “The defendant used his technical expertise to prevent the City from gaining access to its own network system. I am appreciative of the jury for recognizing the seriousness of this conduct and for holding this individual accountable.”
Defendant Childs was arrested on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at his home in Pittsburg, California by members of the San Francisco Police Department and was immediately taken into custody. The felony count against the defendant was immediately charged by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.
The prosecution is the result of a dedicated, thorough investigation by San Francisco Police Department Inspector James Ramsey. Conrad Del Rosario is the Assistant District Attorney who tirelessly prosecuted the case.
